In the basement of a townhouse in Munich designed by David Chipperfield, destilat created a private spa area with sauna, steam bath, whirlpool and fitness room - an exclusive retreat that combines architecture, function and atmosphere at the highest level.
The design approach followed a conscious attitude: "Learning from the masters" - not in the sense of epigonal imitation, but as a respectful examination of the existing architectural language. The aim was to give Chipperfield's clear, powerful design an independent creative twist - subtle, reduced, yet expressive.
The rooms unfold their effect through a consistent, subtle color scheme and high-quality, homogeneous materials. Natural stone, warm-toned surfaces and seamless transitions form a quiet, tactile continuum, which is given an almost theatrical spatial atmosphere through targeted lighting accents.
The lighting becomes an architectural tool: it models volumes, creates depth and sets targeted emotional accents - far removed from any gimmickry. The result is a modern interpretation of the classic grotto: reduced, contemplative, almost meditative.
With Spa C, destilat has created an intimate world of experience that focuses on retreat and relaxation - embedded in an overall architectural concept that consciously enters into a dialog with Chipperfield's signature style without imitating it. A project that shows how contemporary interior design can not only respect context, but also think ahead.
