House V Pool

Vienna

Year: 2025
Status: Design planning
Client: Private

In a prime location, destilat extended a traditional wine house with a new building on the courtyard side - with the aim of creating a harmonious interplay of historical substance and contemporary architecture.

The street view remained unchanged, entirely in keeping with the sensitive preservation of the townscape. The architectural intervention took place exclusively on the courtyard side - a spacious new building was created there, which houses an open-plan kitchen-living room with direct access to the garden, private bedrooms and a home spa on the upper floor.

The architectural language of the extension is based on the Brutalist aesthetic of the 1960s - raw, clear, monolithic. At the same time, an atmospheric color and material concept was used to create a strongly homely character: tactile surfaces and warm colors create an atmospheric depth that deliberately counteracts the austerity of the formal language.

A central design element is the continuous roof that connects the courtyard-side extension with a separate pool and garage building. A sheltered inner courtyard with a natural pool, planting zones and spacious terrace opens up between these structures. The result is a shielded, secluded outdoor space - a modern interpretation of the courtyard, intended as a place of retreat, a space to linger and recharge your batteries.

House V combines apparent opposites: raw concrete aesthetics and homely comfort, traditional local ties and contemporary clarity. A project that shows how respectful treatment of the existing and a bold architectural signature can result in a harmonious whole.
