destilat developed an interior design facelift for the Arcotel Kaiserwasser - located in Vienna's suburb of Kaisermühlen, close to the UNO City and directly on the Kaiserwasser branch of the Danube - that breathes new life into the ageing interior. The time and budget for the floor-by-floor renovation of the rooms were extremely tight and were designed while the hotel was in operation.
Since the eponymous figure of the emperor is anchored in our minds above all in the form of busts and monuments, destilat have taken inspiration for their hotel interior design from the classic sculptor's studio (as the place of origin of the stately sculptures) and elevated the sketchy to a design element that sets the tone.
The ceiling, walls and floor are bathed in soft stone tones - accentuated by fragmentary drawings of historical building elements such as columns, balustrades and rocaille borders, which lend the room a subtly royal character. The bed and armchair are just as stately in their softly upholstered appearance. Existing furnishings such as the richly decorated, wall-high mirrors blend harmoniously into the overall design in plaster white.
The open wall unit and desk made of whitewashed wood provide an exciting contrast: robust and angular, they could have come straight out of a busy artist's workshop with their classic collar shape. The workshop flair is also emphasized by the irregularly spotted carpet tiles, which give the impression of signs of wear, and the plaster-white sculptural accessories, which complete the studio character of the ambience as "in progress" set pieces
