Corona has redefined our work and turned traditional processes upside down. A few months ago, many would have dismissed the idea of planning a Vienna city centre flat tailored to the needs of a young family, remodelling it and handing it over equipped down to the smallest detail without ever having met the clients living in London in person as too daring. However, due to travel restrictions, we had no other choice to meet the tight moving deadline.
The interior of the 180 m2 flat in an old building with a small balcony in a prestigious house in the 1st district was to be "very down to earth". High-quality, sustainable materials and a palette of subtle natural tones characterise the design that destilat spread out in the given floor plan. Tiles, floors, washbasins and fittings were already installed - here it was a matter of adapting, retrofitting and upgrading: Shiny gold taps and door handles were removed and replaced by modern understatement; the oiled floors were sanded so that they form a harmonious unit in colour and feel with the porcelain stoneware surfaces of the open-plan kitchen. Great attention was also paid to the lighting concept, which underlines the soft tones and calm atmosphere of the city flat.
As the project progressed, the order volume grew steadily - right down to kitchen appliances, crockery and bed linen, the flat was furnished ready for occupancy. Behind this is a lot of responsibility for the designers and just as much trust on the part of the clients in the skills of the others - clearly the best basis for a successful collaboration.
